The Age of Entrepreneurship

“It is accepted that the world is experiencing an entrepreneurial age, which is characterized by factors such as accelerated innovation and the commercialization threat at a faster rate, companies scaling down in order to be more competitive, and more emphasis on project-driven approaches. One can therefore assume that more must be done to ensure that the youth is employable and can start their own businesses.” GEM 2007

As a board we are proud to be associated with the South African Institute for Entrepreneurship (SAIE) which continues year after year to work tirelessly towards ensuring that South Africa’s youth is employable and entrepreneurial.

We are proud that SAIE has forged strategic partnerships with key players such as Umsobomvu Youth Fund (UYF), the National Department of Education and the Provincial Departments of Education, seda (Small Enterprise Development Agency), key long-term corporate partners, implementation partners such as loveLife and a wide range of smaller, but by no means insignificant, NGOs which use SAIE’s materials in their work.

We are proud that SAIE works in the fundamentally key areas for sustainable development such as education through the Business VENTURES schools programmes; agriculture through the AgriPlanner and AgriPlanit programmes; tourism with Wings of Welcome and small business development with the BEST Game range of courses. The fact that SAIE has had the foresight – as long ago as the late 1990s – to predict that these sectors require particular focus to ensure economic sustainability means that this organisation is already far down the road in terms of the impact that it is making.

We are proud that this foresight has meant that SAIE has a comprehensive range of products which it makes available around the country (and internationally); that its implementation and operational systems (including a state of the art MIS system) are continually being tried and tested to provide the best service to the target markets; that its relationships with all stakeholders are mature and transparent and that it is aware that technology through effective and appropriate resources are only as good as the training and support that it provides to the educators and trainers who have the hard task of transferring knowledge and learning.

We are proud to be associated with an organization that has Learning at its core. It is constantly looking for new innovations in learning to be incorporated into its programmes. And it is honest in its desire to learn so that it can improve its services – which is evidenced in the current project to develop an impact assessment tool to measure the change in entrepreneurial mindset.

Finally, we as a board are proud to be able to support an organization which has such a secure staff team and such a low staff turnover. This in itself is an indication of the loyalty and passion that this small team has for the vision and mission of the organization. South Africa is fortunate to be home to the calibre of organizations such as this one.
