Change of leadership at SAIE

Copy of letter sent to stakeholders on 24th April 2009

As a valued supporter of The South African Institute for Entrepreneurship (SAIE), we wanted to inform you of a change of leadership at the organization.

Margie Worthington-Smith, who founded SAIE and has provided admirable vision and leadership for the past 13 years, has felt the need to move into a more advisory role and has taken up a position on the Board.

During the last few years of her tenure, Margie has put systems in place that will ensure that SAIE continues in the same efficient manner that it always has. As the board we are proud that this NGO has tight management information and accounting systems, undertakes regular evaluations, is well governed, achieves tremendous impact in its projects, produces wonderfully innovative materials and has managed to sustain itself as an NGO in the challenging world of donor funding.
With respect to the latter, Margie has developed an ‘Outreach Strategy’ which will complement SAIE’s donor income with income from the sale of products to markets beyond the development sector – thus enabling the organisation to be more sustainable.

The board of SAIE is happy to announce that Dr Robin Stead has been appointed CEO of the Institute with effect from 1 March 2009. He comes with a wide range of relevant experience in both the business and NGO sectors. He has a strong academic background, was part of the group who founded St Luke’s Hospice and served as its Chairman for a decade. We believe that he is highly suitable as CEO and will provide a sure hand on the helm as we negotiate the challenges of the years ahead. We wish to assure all our partners, stakeholders and funders that SAIE will continue to be a significant player in the education, agricultural, small business, youth and tourism arenas. We look forward to your continued support as we pursue our vision.

We are grateful for Margie’s services and we wish her well as she faces new and exciting challenges.

Yours sincerely,

Luna Ntsume, Chairperson of the Board
