Try Out - Grade 6

What is Achieved?

This programme develops entrepreneurial initiative by challenging learners to undertake money-making mini ventures.

Theme

Learners meet 32 entrepreneurial heroes or “entreprenheroes” who introduce them to business skills and concepts.

Learning Context

Learners practise the skills underpinning each concept in the virtual world of Ventureville, then try out a micro-venture to practise that skill at home.

Lesson Plan Process

In groups learners read an entrepreneur ’s story, then follow a three-stage, business problem-solving process (get to grips; get thinking; get smart).

Fun Work Cards

Each Try Out! work card begins with an entrepreneurial story to introduce a concept such as production, invention, selling, customer service, peoplemanagement, seeing opportunities, customer research, etc. These are the entrepreneurial concepts and skills that de?ne Economic and Management Sciences. Interactive activities then enable learners to achieve learning outcomes showing that they mastered these concepts and skills. Splash Image
For “homework”, work cards challenge learners to apply the new concepts and skills to their own lives using their own resources and contacts to make money and to achieve their own personal goals.

Ventureville

Each Try Out! kit includes six Ventureville posters. Ventureville is really a virtual city that is designed to introduce learners to the world of business. Ventureville is packed full of entrepreneurial activities and opportunities. Work cards challenge learners to explore Ventureville. So doing, they learn to see their own communities with entrepreneurial vision, recognising entrepreneurs and new business ventures and looking out for hidden opportunities.
