Bergville Phase 2

Project details

Partner(s):

This project is set to be implemented in KwaZulu Natal. KwaZulu-Natal, often referred to as "KZN", is a province of South Africa. Prior to 1994 the territory now known as KwaZulu-Natal was made up of the province of Natal and all pieces of territory that made up the Bantustan of KwaZulu. KZN borders three other provinces and the countries of Mozambique, Swaziland, and Lesotho, along with a long shoreline on the Indian Ocean. About 82% of the population is black. During apartheid, a large percentage were forced to live in Bantu homelands (Bantustans), which had a subsistence economy based on cattle raising and corn growing.

Our Involvement:

SAIE provides schools and educators with quality, innovative learning materials (BusinessVENTURES kits) and the requisite training in terms of content knowledge, methodology in Outcomes Based Education (OBE) and entrepreneurial development. SAIE’s Business Ventures materials conform to the Department of Education’s (DoE) curriculum structure classified under the Economic and Management Sciences (EMS: Grade 2 to 9) and Business Studies (Grades 10 to 12). Learners are empowered through the quality materials and effective teaching, in order to develop entrepreneurial mindsets and business knowledge. This prepares them for either creating their own jobs or participating in the post school life in a more entrepreneurial way.

Project Progress:

This project has not commenced and is expected to be implemented in 2008. The project shall benefit 20 educators who will receive training and support in the usage of BusinessVENTURES entrepreneurship learning materials within the curriculum. Educators will be assessed six to ten months after implementation in the classroom and – if assessed to be competent – receive 10 credits on the SAQA/ETDP SETA NQF level 4. Two thousand four hundred learners in grade 2 and grade 3 will benefit directly from the materials and the educator training for at least three years from 2008 to 2010. Educators will use the materials in the classroom, within the curriculum, for 32 lessons per year. Learners will acquire and develop knowledge in entrepreneurship and skills in business, which will be further developed in the ensuing years as they will be exposed to BusinessVENTURES entrepreneurship learning materials in consecutive years.

BusinessVentures

Business VENTURES is a series of entrepreneurship learning resources for grades 2-12. Each of the modules provides all the materials required to facilitate and learn about entrepreneurship and business during one year. SAIE has designed a set of learning materials for each grade at schools. These materials comply with all the requirements to teach the Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) learning area (which includes entrepreneurship.) These resources are packaged in a zipped porticase and are reusable year on year.
