Warburton Combined School is located in a rural area some 15km from Chrissiesmeer in Mpumalanga. The school - which offers grades 2 through 12 - has a critical shortage of educators and classrooms are overcrowded (there are 92 learners in grade 8 and a similar number in grade 9). Textbooks are also in short supply and learners have to share these.

Our Involvement:

SAIE provides schools and educators with quality, innovative learning materials (BusinessVENTURES kits) and the requisite training in terms of content knowledge, methodology in Outcomes Based Education (OBE) and entrepreneurial development. SAIE’s Business Ventures materials conform to the Department of Education’s (DoE) curriculum structure classified under the Economic and Management Sciences (EMS: Grade 2 to 9) and Business Studies (Grades 10 to 12). Learners are empowered through the quality materials and effective teaching, in order to develop entrepreneurial mindsets and business knowledge. This prepares them for either creating their own jobs or participating in the post school life in a more entrepreneurial way.

Project Progress:

The training of the Warburton educators was conducted in May 2010. Twenty two educators from grade 2 to grade 12 will be trained to use the BusinessVENTURES entrepreneurship learning materials in the classroom. Each grade received its own grade specific programme.

A three day Follow-up I support workshop will take place in July 2010 with 40 educators. Then in September 2010, a second, one day, follow-up workshop will take place, supporting 22 educators. The project will be continually monitored and then completed with an evaluation in October 2010.
