Partner(s):Hommoequa is the Koi-San name for the Cocks Comb Peak which directly translates to "The blue cloud mountain". The Hommoequa Craft Community Project tackles the lack of skills-training in the Kouga community, Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape. They provide the people at grassroots level with the knowledge that creativity is the answer to creating income, fight depression, bond families and get the children off the street. The low cost of the material used in craft, makes it possible for unemployed people to use this technique working from their homes. Humansdorp is a small town and surrounding district in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, with a population of around 35,000 (COEGA,2002-3). The town is the centre of the district's light industry and farming. Humansdorp was founded in 1849, and was named after Johannes Jurie Human and Matthys Gerhardus Human, who were joint founders of the Dutch Reformed Church congregation there. Our Involvement:SAIE’s Micro Plan training fulfills the technical aspect of the entrepreneurial dimension of the projects at Hommoequa Craft Community Project. Communities acquire the commercial expertise that helps them to trade their crafts thereby earning an income. In this project, SAIE delivers Microplan training which is specifically aimed at enhancing the commercial competencies of the beneficiary communities affiliated to Hommoequa Craft Community Project. Project Progress:On 21 May 2007, 15 members received Microplan training at Humansdorp. Follow-up training is scheduled for October 16th - 20th 2007. One Starter Plan kit and 100 workbooks were issued. The second starter plan will be issued during the follow-up.
