HOPEHIV 2007 Uganda Best Game Training

Project details

Partner(s):

HOPEHIV commissioned SAIE to train and equip trainers to encourage and develop entrepreneurship in Uganda using the BEST game incorporated into Starter Plan. Uganda is located in Eastern Africa, west of Kenya. Uganda’s population was pegged at 30,262,610 using July 2007 estimates. (CIA Factbook) Uganda is considered to be a Less Developed Country (LDC) and received multilateral economic aid worth $1.198 billion (2005). Fixed growth investment is pegged at about 24.3% of GDP (2007 est.) In terms of the household income or consumption by percentage share, the least 10% are about 2.3% while the highest 10%: 37.7% (2002). A clear indication of low ebtreprenurial activity is the Labor force - by occupation which is distributed as agriculture, 82%; industry, 5% and services, 13% (1999 est.) 35% (2001 est.) of the people live below poverty line. SAIE’s Best Game training was thus a befitting skills portfolio to be infused into the Ugandan society.

Our Involvement:

Unlike regular SAIE entrepreneurship training programs which are carried out within South Africa, SAIE routinely conducts international trainings. In most cases, independent agents conduct the training after receiving master trainer training from SAIE. In other cases, SAIE service providers and staff may conduct the training on behalf of the firm. The training is usually customized to meet the unique characteristics of the recipient groups.

Project Progress:

The training was delivered in 5 day seminar from Monday 12th February until Friday 16th February and was facilitated by James Thomas from SAIE. Several organizations received SAIE training and acquired training licenses and materials under the auspices of HOPEHIV at the premises of International Community Development Consultants in Rubaga, Kampala. These are ACET Uganda, Oasis Uganda, SAFY, Undugu Society and the Salvation Army. Thirteen people attended the training from the abovementioned organizations. SAIE has arrangements to send each of the trainers a certificate to recognize them as trainers. In addition, SAIE has decided to send one complimentary copy of the workbook of Bottom Line Basics which is a simpler workbook than Starter Plan which is better suited to learners with very limited literacy levels. The Bottom Line Basics course incorporates the learning of the BEST Game.
