Partner(s):The Department of Education is SAIE partner that assists with the identification of target schools for BusinessVENTURES training. Phoenix Teachers Center the Venue for the Inanda project, is located in the Phoenix settlement in Inanda, Durban. Inanda is surrounded by areas like Chartsworth and Kwamashu in the eThekwini Metropolitan municipality (Municipal Code ETH) of Durban. Our Involvement:SAIE provides schools and educators with quality, innovative learning materials (BusinessVENTURES kits) and the requisite training in terms of content knowledge, methodology in Outcomes Based Education (OBE) and entrepreneurial development. SAIE’s Business Ventures materials conform to the Department of Education’s (DoE) curriculum structure classified under the Economic and Management Sciences (EMS: Grade 2 to 9) and Business Studies (Grades 10 to 12). Learners are empowered through the quality materials and effective teaching, in order to develop entrepreneurial mindsets and business knowledge. This prepares them for either creating their own jobs or participating in the post school life in a more entrepreneurial way. Project Progress:On 14 May 2005 forty educators attended grade 3 training and another 40 attended the grade 5 training the same day at Phoenix Teacher’s College. On the 21st of May 2005 forty educators attended the grade 7 training. Sixty BusinessVENTURES kits were distributed. Educators expressed the views that the programme helps learners to expand the purview of their imagination beyond the classroom. Educators felt that the program induces a desire to start a business and think like a business owner, and to identify potential ventures thereby bridging the gap between theory and practice. |
