Project details

Partner(s):

Morgen Mutsau is a Post Graduate student from the University of the Witwatersrand where he is on an exchange program from Bard College of Liberal Arts in Upstate New York, USA. Bard College is a Liberal Arts School in Upstate New York named after its founder John Bard. Bard is a residential college which provides an exquisite campus setting in which students pursue their academic interests and craft a rich social life. Bard College was previously known as St Stephens College and between 1923 and 1934 it became a graduate school of Columbia University The College is in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, on the east bank of the Hudson River, about 90 miles north of New York City and 220 miles southwest of Boston. Bard's park-like campus covers more than 500 acres of fields and forested land bordering the Hudson River. Bard is in the vicinity of two 19th-century estates; the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum; and the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill. Bard education is under gird by liberal arts principles that views education as a continuous process of growth and effort, whereby the student has to be trained to comprehend and foster his/her own growth and direct his/her own efforts. This is delivered through a tutorial and seminar system that encourages disciplined and independent study. Liberal arts education is very strong in the fine and performing arts. Bard is renowned for The Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts which draws crowds from all over the world. Designed by internationally acclaimed architect Frank Gehry, the Fisher Center is an architecturally bold and dynamic environment for innovative artistic presentation in the Hudson Valley. The 110 000-square-foot Performing Arts Center houses two theaters; four rehearsal studios for dance, theater, and music; and professional support facilities.

This is achieved through a rigorous training in Electronic Project Management Systems (Management Information Systems: process editing, evidence database management, site administration), MIS based Evaluation Systems (Process logic/systems design), Customised Sector Research and project research

Project Progress:

Morgen has successfully undergone training in Management Informations Systems and is part of a team that is working in the content and MIS software architecture of our monitoring and evaluation system. The project is at an advanced stage.

Learnership and Internship Programme

In line with South Africa's skills development strategy, and also as a way of utilizing the facilities available to firms to recruit learners and interns, SAIE has developed a Learnership and Internship Program. Interns are taken from South African and foreign Universities and they are attached to SAIE for a period varying from one month to 12 months. SAIE's Internship and Learnership Program bridges the gap between a student’s theoretical college education and the world of work, giving the student both work experience and practical, tangible skills ranging from organisational administration and project management, monitoring and evaluation, fieldwork, research and electronic management systems (Management Information Systems)
