Phokeng 2

Project details

Partner(s):

This proposed entrepreneurship development project will be an initiate of the Royal Bafokeng Institute and SAIE. RBI together with SAIE will be responsible for the facilitation of the project’s implementation while the Department of Education NW will be responsible for ensuring the full participation of the educators and subject advisors. (The Department of Educatino (DoE) is traditionally SAIE’s partner in the identification of schools and regions for SAIE’s BusinessVENTURES training.) The Phokeng II project will take place in the North West Province in 200 schools (55 Bafokeng and 95 DoE schools).

The North West Province was created by the post apartheid government after 1994. Its domain includes parts of the former Transvaal province and Cape Province, as well as most of the former “Bantustan” of Bophuthatswana. North West province has 2236147 learners are between Grade 1 and 12. 208732 people have no household income, 2182652 have no personal income while 197450 have an income below R400. The North West has 2057991 economically active people between 15 and 64 years and 878115 non-economically active people. 491967 people are unemployed, and 7328 are employers.

Our Involvement:

SAIE provides schools and educators with quality, innovative learning materials (BusinessVENTURES kits) and the requisite training in terms of content knowledge, methodology in Outcomes Based Education (OBE) and entrepreneurial development. SAIE’s Business Ventures materials conform to the Department of Education’s (DoE) curriculum structure classified under the Economic and Management Sciences (EMS: Grade 2 to 9) and Business Studies (Grades 10 to 12). Learners are empowered through the quality materials and effective teaching, in order to develop entrepreneurial mindsets and business knowledge. This prepares them for either creating their own jobs or participating in the post school life in a more entrepreneurial way.

Project Progress:

Meetings have been held with the North West Department of Education, RBH and RBI. A proposal has been sent and SAIE and RBI are awaiting written buy-in from the North West Department of Education.

BusinessVentures

Business VENTURES is a series of entrepreneurship learning resources for grades 2-12. Each of the modules provides all the materials required to facilitate and learn about entrepreneurship and business during one year. SAIE has designed a set of learning materials for each grade at schools. These materials comply with all the requirements to teach the Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) learning area (which includes entrepreneurship.) These resources are packaged in a zipped porticase and are reusable year on year.
