Rotary Club of Cape Town

Project details

Partner(s):

The Rotary Club is an organisation that consists of community and business leaders who offer their time, skills and knowledge to help others in their society and internationally. The main objective of The Rotary Club is to promote and advance the principle of service as the foundation of worthy enterprise. The club also aims to foster:

  1. Networking as an opportunity for service
  2. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
  3. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life.
  4. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Our Involvement:

Since 1999, SAIE (then known as the Institute for Development Services) has partnered with The Rotary Club to bring forth the “Business Development/entrepreneurship Programme for Rotary.

The programme is centred on presenting the Best Game to high schools students with the aim of developing their entrepreneurial mindset and business skills. This interactive game simulates real market conditions and scenarios in a classroom setting, and allows students to weigh up information, make decisions and react to consequences.

Project Progress:

This partnership has lasted a number of years and involves a 2½ hour training for two days that is split between approximately 60 Grade 11 students from all over the country.

The dates that these trainings have taken place, include: • 6th and 7th July 1999 • 4th and 5th July 2000 • 2nd and 3rd July 2001 • 1st and 2nd July 2002 • 9th July 2004 • 28th June 2005 • 28th June 2006 • 10th July 2007 • 10th July 2008 • 2nd July 2009
