Partner(s):The Mpumalanga Department of Education (Secunda District) is SAIE's partner. Our Involvement:SAIE provides schools and educators with quality, innovative learning materials (BusinessVENTURES) and the requisite training in terms of content knowledge, methodology in Outcomes Based Education (OBE) and entrepreneurial development. SAIE’s Business Ventures materials conform to the Department of Education’s (DoE) curriculum structure classified under the Economic and management Sciences (EMS: Grade 2 to 9) and Business Studies (Grades 10 to 12). Learners are empowered through the quality materials and effective teaching, in order to develop entrepreneurial mindsets and business knowledge. This prepares them for either creating their own jobs or participating in the post school life in a more entrepreneurial way. Project Progress:Educator training was conducted by Trevor Bagley and Gavin Leverton from 16 – 20 February 2009 at the Sasol Social Club at Embalehle Village; 48 educators from 7 schools were trained (3 schools did not attend the training); 42 educators signed for receipt of the kits; Hoëveld Laer received the Afrikaans versions of the materials with English Teacher Guides; 19 programmes were handed to Mr Greg April (3 programmes per grade, with 4 programmes for grade 7); The first follow-up support was conducted from 28 – 30 April 2009 by Gavin Leverton. 10 educators from the outstanding 3 schools were trained; the initial 7 schools were visited with 15 educators receiving support from Gavin. The second follow-up support was conducted on 3, 4, 6 and 7 August, with 25 educators from the initial 7 schools receiving support from Gavin Leverton. He also attended a market day for the grade 2 learners at Laerskool Hoëveld on Friday, 07 August. Mrs De Klerk undertook to train the new educator, Mr C. Botha, in the usage of the materials. MD Coovadia School had started a vegetable garden for its own feeding scheme and to teach learners about food security. The 3 new schools were also visited with support provided to 8 of the newly trained educators and orientation to an additional 2 educators. Further educator support was conducted in October 2009, with more support scheduled for the first term in 2010. |
