SEDA 2009 Tender

Project details

Partner(s):

SAIE’s partner in identifying schools and regions that receive BusinessVENTURES training is the Department of Education (DoE). Training will take place across 6 provinces: Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Free State, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, and the North West.

Our Involvement:

SAIE provides schools and educators with quality, innovative learning materials (BusinessVENTURES kits) and the requisite training in terms of content knowledge, methodology in Outcomes Based Education (OBE) and entrepreneurial development. SAIE’s BusinessVENTURES materials conform to the Department of Education’s (DoE) curriculum structure classified under the Economic and Management Sciences (EMS: Grade 2 to 9) and Business Studies (Grades 10 to 12). Learners are empowered through the quality materials and effective teaching, in order to develop entrepreneurial mindsets and business knowledge. This prepares them for either creating their own jobs or participating in the post school life in a more entrepreneurial way.

Project Progress:

SAIE supplied 347 grade 9 - grade 11 kits to 144 schools, 10 kits to the EC, NC and NW DoEs, and trained 427 educators in the provinces of the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape (Upington and Kuruman districts combined, and Kimberly district) and North West. These figures translate into 115% kits distributed, 143% schools reached, and 71% educators trained. Many of the trained educators are responsible for multiple grades – either two grades or all three grades – accounting for the training of only 427 educators instead of the target of 606 educators. 134 days were spent on training, kit distribution, follow-up and school visits, 16 days more than the 118 tender days, translating into 114% days. The project was completed in November 2009.

BusinessVentures

Business VENTURES is a series of entrepreneurship learning resources for grades 2-12. Each of the modules provides all the materials required to facilitate and learn about entrepreneurship and business during one year. SAIE has designed a set of learning materials for each grade at schools. These materials comply with all the requirements to teach the Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) learning area (which includes entrepreneurship.) These resources are packaged in a zipped porticase and are reusable year on year.
