SEDA COMPETITION 2011

Project details

Partner(s):

The project is targeting up to 10 000 aspiring entrepreneurs from all provinces in the country. 40 Seda branches as well as a number of Business Place centres will be used as the points of contact for the competition. Applicants will apply through the nearest centre, and will be taken through a skills development and evaluation process which will result on the applicants producing their own business plan. This plan will form the basis for the first phase of online adjudication, which will narrow the field down to a number of contenders for the Provincial finals. This short-list of provincial finalists will present their proposal to a panel of judges, from which provincial winners and runners-up will be selected. Nine Provincial awards ceremonies will be held, involving prominent local government and business leaders. These will be held in early December 2011.

Our Involvement:

This competition will lay strong emphasis on business skills development as part of the process. All applicants will participate in a one day business simulation game developed by SAIE. Known as the BEST Game, this has been used in over 75 different countries and translated into over 14 languages, and provides unique insights into how business works as well as revealing something of the character of the applicants when in the pressured realities of making a business work. Facilitators will rate the applicants according to their performance in the Game, and these scores will be carried through to be integrated with the results of the business plan adjudication.
